High Style: Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection

A delightful puzzle of twists and slits.

The New Look Trapeze dress and contemporaries.

Inset flares accentuated with fringe.

The filigree sequins give this skirt the singularity of a snowflake

Check out loose, easy, wearable shapes. Sort of like a women's lib collection.

Lighweight wool with very minimal binding and structure.

I found the arm opening construction on this dress very elegant and innovative.

A tiny barely visible seam shows were a sliver of fabric was likely inserted into the skirt to create a fuller sweep.

I havn't gone into much detail regarding the garments because everything (and much more) can be found in the accompanying book, High Style. In particular, I bypassed a bulk of work on display by Worth and James.

A bonus bounty of fruit from the main museum collection.
